It took just two pitches for Tyler Glasnow to fall behind.
Jordan Lawlar launched Glasnow’s second pitch of the afternoon over the wall for a solo home run, giving the Arizona Diamondbacks a quick 1–0 lead.
It would turn out to be the first and only run Arizona would score.
Glasnow quickly settled in, retiring hitters with authority over the next 4⅓ innings. The Dodgers right-hander threw 60 pitches, 40 for strikes, striking out five and walking just one — exactly the kind of performance the Los Angeles Dodgers were hoping to see with Opening Day approaching.
The Dodgers bullpen followed with a strong effort of its own, preventing Arizona from mounting any serious threat the rest of the afternoon.
Offensively, Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman each collected two hits, with Freeman adding another double and an RBI. Andy Pages and Alex Call also contributed hits as Los Angeles went on to claim a 4–1 victory.
With the regular season fast approaching, the Dodgers continue to look every bit like a club preparing to defend its title.
Today’s Notes
Espinal Keeps Pushing for Roster Spot – Santiago Espinal added another hit while serving as the designated hitter and scored a run, continuing to strengthen his case for a spot on the Opening Day roster.
Campos Shuts the Door – In a closing role, Chris Campos struck out four batters while allowing just one hit and no runs to finish off the Diamondbacks.
Sasaki Dominates in B Game – Pitching in a “B” game against the Chicago White Sox, Roki Sasaki was electric. After surrendering a leadoff single, Sasaki retired the next 12 hitters, striking out nine, including seven in a row. Prior to the game, manager Dave Roberts said, “I don’t see a world in which Roki Sasaki doesn’t open the season as a starter.” Sasaki’s performance did nothing to contradict that.
