Dodgers Sweep Split-Squad Sunday with Wins Over Cubs and Rangers

It was split-squad day for the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday in Arizona. While half the squad welcomed the Texas Rangers to Camelback Ranch, the other group made the short drive to Sloan Park to take on the Chicago Cubs.

Putting Saturday’s dismal performance behind them, the Dodgers bounced back in impressive fashion, winning both games and providing plenty of highlights along the way.

Sloan Park Highlights

Dodgers 14 – Cubs 8

Sheehan Progressing: Emmet Sheehan took another encouraging step forward and appears to be moving closer to being ready for Opening Day. Over 3⅔ innings, Sheehan threw 66 pitches, 41 for strikes. He struck out four, walked just one, and allowed three hits and two runs.

Mookie Locking In: Looking to put last year’s inconsistencies behind him, Mookie Betts appears determined to return to All-Star form. Betts launched his first home run of the spring over the center-field wall, giving Dodger fans hope that the clutch version of Mookie will be back in full force this season.

Tibbs Making His Case James Tibbs III: continued to turn heads, going 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored, and an RBI. Tibbs is making a strong argument to earn a roster spot when the regular season begins.

The Comet Returns: Hyeseong Kim was back in Dodger blue and started at second base. Kim finished 1-for-4 and scored a run. With less than two weeks until Opening Day, the battle for that second-base job is heating up.

Camelback Ranch Highlights

Dodgers 5 – Rangers 3

Rojas Showing No Signs of Slowing: If Miguel Rojas plans to retire after this season, he certainly isn’t playing like it. The 37-year-old veteran went 2-for-3 while scoring a run and continues to put together a terrific spring. While many expect a young player to claim the second-base job, Rojas is quietly making a strong case to win the role himself.

Ryan Brothers Deliver Again: For the second time this spring, pitchers River Ryan and Ryder Ryan appeared in the same game. The duo combined for 6⅔ innings, striking out eight batters while allowing three earned runs.

Tucker Shows His Power: Kyle Tucker continued to flex his power, launching his second home run of the spring. Sunday’s blast came with a runner aboard, giving Tucker two RBIs and offering another glimpse of the impact the offseason acquisition could have.

Teoscar Keeps Producing: Teoscar Hernández stayed hot with an RBI-producing double, continuing the strong offensive performance he has displayed throughout spring training.

With Opening Day fast approaching, the Dodgers are beginning to show the kind of sharp focus and depth that could help fuel their pursuit of another championship run.
