Dodgers Storm Back to Beat Angels

Before the Dodgers could even settle in, starting pitcher Landon Knack surrendered back-to-back home runs to Vaughn Grissom and Logan O’Hoppe, and just like that the Angels jumped out to an early 3–0 lead. In less than one inning, Knack allowed four hits and issued a walk. It looked as though Sunday’s game might follow the same frustrating script, as the Dodgers had already dropped three games over the weekend.
But the rest of the Dodger pitching staff slammed the door, shutting the Angels down over the next eight innings. That gave the Dodger bats time to regroup and get back into the swing of things.
The Dodgers chipped away at the deficit until James Tibbs III delivered a game-tying home run in the bottom of the sixth inning. In the very next frame, three consecutive singles to lead off the inning—capped by a Kyle Nevin RBI knock—pushed across the go-ahead run and gave the Dodgers a 4–3 lead. The Angels were unable to mount a comeback, and the Dodgers held on to take the Sunday afternoon matchup in Arizona.
Today’s Notes
Freddie Freeman continued his strong spring, collecting another double and driving in a run. Freeman, who is aiming to log at least 47 at-bats before the season begins, looks well on his way to anchoring the middle of the lineup as a dominant cleanup hitter this year.
Alex Vesia electrified the crowd in the fourth inning, striking out the side on just 17 pitches. The roar after the final punch-out said everything about how fans feel when Vesia takes the mound.
Playing shortstop, Noah Miller went 2-for-2 with a double, once again showing he is locked in as he pushes for an infield roster spot on the Opening Day squad.
